Ursula Hoppe Lanier

Ursula Hoppe Lanier, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at her residence.  She was born in Berlin, Germany, daughter of Karl and Flora Hoppe.  She resided in Berlin until moving to Munich in 1949.  While living in Munich in 1963, she met United States Army Staff Sergeant Raymond D. Lanier and they were married the same year.  In 1964, they were transferred to the United States where they lived until he was stationed in Korea.  During that time, Mrs. Lanier returned to Germany.  When he returned to the United States from Korea, Mrs. Lanier rejoined him and they were stationed at various military installations around the country.  He retired from the military in 1973 and he and Mrs. Lanier made their home in Savannah.  For over twenty years, Mrs. Lanier was an employee of Smith Brothers Grocery.

Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Raymond D. Lanier; daughter, Alexandra Smith; two grandsons, Christopher D. Held and Bernie M. Cobb, Jr. all of Savannah; two great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Bill and Gerald Lanier.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

Remembrances may be made to Bethany Hospice Coastal Georgia, 8395 US Highway 301, Claxton, GA 30417.
